Dutch Technique: What it is?

Well, rather than me tell you I'll leave it to Dr Matthew Sussman of University of Sydney (and Harvard before that).
'Jan is an incredibly talented writer and artist who consistently astounds me with his creative imagination and drive. Over the last few years I’ve had the privilege to supervise his Doctor of Arts, a rollicking postmodern epic called 'Dutch Technique,' that brings together comic book art, personal narrative, poetry, and criticism to create a truly unique meditation on the meaning of heroism and loss. As a writer, Jan is a master of style and tone, leaping from heartfelt, to the mawkish, to the comic-intellectual (and more) with supreme ease. His command of genre is unassailable, which means he can write on any subject and for any occasion. It’s been a pleasure to watch his work develop and hear his thoughts on topics as wide-ranging as Jack Kirby and Martin Heidegger, the history of comic books and the history of religious thought.'
Sounds pretty cool, huh.

INTO THE INTRO

So way, way, way back in 2015 I decided it would be a good idea to finish a postgraduate degree, so I did a doctorate at the University of Sydney, where I soon started to get work teaching critical thinking and a number of courses in writing and media and communications. I finally finished my masterpiece way back in 2022, and it is still sitting on my computer while I dither about finding the right publisher (if such a beast exists). The problem is, there is this thing called making a living which gets in the way of other stuff. There is also this thing called Long Covid which gets in the way of ... well, just about everything. And then there is this other thing call mental health issues, which gives covid a run for its money.

And then there is yet this other thing, which is people offering you work on stuff which is guaranteed publication - like book covers and comic book work. But now I have a window and it's time. But before I take on the task of going Captain Ahab on a suitable publisher, I'm going to Kickstart this baby.

This is the pure, unexpurgated, warty balls an' all version which the examiners got.

This is a groundbreaking work of genius, take my word for it. Whether it's ploughing the garden of Eden, or meteor shower groundbreaking, mad (possibly twisted) genius or some good kind of genius (which I don't have a suitable metaphor for for for...) you decided.

The curious can check back here for more info on this project and the Kickstarter as I add it.
